ZNA Chapters and Friendship Clubs Worldwide
Welcome to the Zen Nippon Airinkai community.
Discover the passion and dedication of the Zen Nippon Airinkai (ZNA) and its worldwide network of chapters and friendship clubs. Established in Japan in 1962, the ZNA remains one of the oldest and most respected international koi organisations. What began as a circle of Japanese koi breeders and enthusiasts has evolved into a global koi community with chapters and friendship clubs across the world.
“Becoming a member of a ZNA chapter is the second-best step towards a perfect koi hobby. The first step is falling in love with koi.”
The ZNA motto, Friendship through Koi, captures its enduring goal: to connect cultures through the shared appreciation of beauty, patience and harmony embodied by the Nishikigoi.
Here on KoiTalk, this page brings together the official ZNA chapters and friendship clubs worldwide. Each listing links to its Mantifang source record, where the club is preserved as part of the wider koi knowledge archive. Related koi shows are included where they could be connected from the ZNA show calendar.
Our Purpose and Vision
The Zen Nippon Airinkai operates as a bridge between nations, fostering understanding and cooperation among koi enthusiasts of all levels — from backyard keepers to professional breeders and certified judges. Every chapter contributes to the preservation of koi lineage, the refinement of show standards and the responsible stewardship of the aquatic environment.
- Encourage knowledge sharing: Each chapter holds technical and cultural expertise. Through publications, seminars, judging standards and online resources, ZNA helps accurate knowledge about koi health, genetics, pond care and appreciation reach a global audience.
- Facilitate networking: ZNA chapters and friendship clubs connect koi keepers across language, distance and culture, offering opportunities for mentorship, mutual support and international cooperation.
- Promote events: ZNA chapters organise local and international koi shows, workshops and exhibitions that uphold Japanese standards while celebrating regional diversity.
- Strengthen the koi community: Together, the ZNA network supports a more cohesive, well-informed and ethically responsible koi community.
Historical Background
The Zen Nippon Airinkai was founded under the guidance of Japan’s pioneering koi masters, including Mr. Kobayashi of Isawa Nishikigoi Center and other legendary breeders who recognised the need for an organisation dedicated to education, standardisation and friendship.
From its headquarters in Japan, the association began certifying judges, organising national koi shows and publishing material that became important for hobbyists worldwide. As the hobby spread to Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, local chapters carried the same spirit of craftsmanship, respect and learning into their own regions.
These chapters became centres of learning where newcomers and experienced keepers could study koi standards, breeding principles, pond care and the art of appreciation that lies at the heart of Japanese aesthetics.

“The Zen Nippon Airinkai is more than an association. It is a living symbol of friendship, continuity and respect. I believe Korea deserves its own recognised ZNA chapter, and I will gladly support any effort to make that a reality.”
Through KoiTalk and Mantifang, this page will continue to support the visibility of official ZNA chapters, friendship clubs and related koi shows around the world.
